Food - Material, usually of plant or animal origin, that contains or consists of essential body nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals, and is ingested and assimilated by an organism to produce energy, stimulate growth, and maintain life.
1. What role does food play in your culture?
2. If you are not from the US, did you alter certain foods, so it would resemble, or not stand out from American food?
3. Is food part of a family tradition in your culture?
4. If food is part of a family tradition, as a culture are you allowed to explore other dishes or are
you restricted to only certain foods?
5. Does food have certain meanings in your culture, if so, what do some dishes mean?
6. Are there certain foods forbidden in your culture, if so, what are they and why?
7.-1 If there are certain foods forbidden, do you feel tempted when not around your family to
try certain foods and do you actually act on those feelings?
7.-2 If foods are not forbidden, if your culture decided to ban certain foods, do you feel you

Foremost, I am a black person who was born in the U.S.
ReplyDelete1. Food is apart of my culture; especially, during Christmas and New Years Eve.
2. I am allowed to explore any type of food I am interested. In other words, there are no restrictions.
3. When the New Year comes; we eat black-eyed peas for good luck.
4. I don't have any restrictions on what foods I can or cannot eat.
5-2. It would depend on the reason for banning the food.
6. I know that I will always uphold my family's food tradition.

ReplyDelete(1. - 5.) I am Japanese and food plays an important part of my culture. I was born in the United States, but I make frequent trips back to Japan. When I was younger my parents would explain to me the importance of our culture. Specifically, my parents told me that one of the few things that could be passed through generations was food culture.
ReplyDelete(2.) There are no food that I know of that are forbidden.
Foods that I enjoy:
rice (gohan)
(miso shiru), pickled vegetables
(tsukemono) and fish or meat
(udon, soba and ramen) noodles
soy sauce (shoyu), miso
Natto, fermented soybeans

1)Food is a big deal in our culture; it is almost the same as the language it speaks for itself
2) No, we don;t change anything because that would be the same as denying our culture and we are proud of our culture
3) Yes, food is a tradition and the same recipes have been passed down to each generation
4) I am Muslim, so pork is out of the question
5) Yes, the way a meal is cooked, it takes time to prepare certain dishes a lot of pride goes into these meals

7) Yes, I feel tempted at times to try different foods but I have to stay true to my culture so I never try them
8) Yes, I would stay true to them; you have to stay true to who you are and your culture.
